Monthly Action Ideas

Action Idea

Try one of HKC's monthly action ideas, generally targeting K-5th grades. Ideas are taken  from one of the HKC teacher-youth leader activity idea booklets or an idea submitted by a school or youth program.  Most are appropriate for the classroom, after school programs, or anywhere kids are found!

In addition, we’re excited HKC is implementing a Kansas grant to help libraries strengthen the link between reading, healthy eating and physical activity for preschoolers! So each month, also check for a preschool activity idea and book suggestion, like the one below!

Reading, Smart Eating, Moving...Balance My Day  Pre-Schoolers Learn about Fruits & Veggies - Every Day the Tasty Way

Read a book like, Veggie Soup
by Dorothy Donohue,
Winslow Press 2000

Talk with preschoolers about the varied and interesting colors that fruits and veggies provide. Explain that by eating a variety of colors for their fruit and veggie choices each day that they will get the fiber, vitamins and minerals they need.

Check out the Kansas Parent Resource Information Center for further family support.
