class, list the following calcium tips on the blackboard.
• Drink calcium fortified juice
• Use skim milk rather than water in canned cream soups
• Try 1 cup low fat yogurt for 1 cup water in flavored
gelatin
• Add nonfat dry milk to foods or beverages like mashed
potatoes or smoothies

Begin
by talking with the class about the health benefits of calcium
foods for strong bones and a healthy body.

| 3. |
Discuss
how the calcium tips on the board are examples of how to add
calcium to the day. |
| 4. |
| Divide
kids into groups of 3-4, and ask each group to: |
| a. |
come up with 3-5 tips of their own for adding calcium. |
| b. |
write a paragraph that explains the health needs for
calcium and includes their group’s calcium tips. |

| 5. |
Place
the groups’ tips in a newsletter or create a tips
sheet for distribution.
